Okay, you can definitely file this under Blog Posts I Never Thought I’d Write. Because, if you’ve been following along for pretty much any amount of time, you’ll know that I really hate winter. And January is most certainly winter, no doubt about it. It’s usually a somewhat depressing month, with the holidays being over, the days are still pretty short, and the weather is just cold, dreary and grey (fun side note, if you live in Ohio like I do, you haven’t seen the sun since 2018!).
So why am I excited about it then? Because last month I decided that I wanted to change my mindset about January this year and actually give myself something to be excited about that month: I wanted to spark creativity.
I wanted to return to what I love doing, what I haven’t been making time for as a new mom, what I used to do all the time and have all but completely stopped. I want to design. For me, designing is the ultimate form of creativity. For you, it might be something else. Whatever it is, make time for it! Being creative is never a waste of time. We all need an outlet.
My goal is to design one print per day for the month of January – that’s 31 prints total! I cut out little squares ahead of time so that all I have to do is take 10-15 minutes each day to sketch, draw, color, whatever on a square. When I’m finished with a print, I’m taping it to the wall in my office. At the end of the month I will have a large mosaic of prints – how cool is that? Some will be good, some will probably be pretty bad. And I am okay with that, because like I already said, being creative is never a waste of time. January, let’s do this!
