Is Black Friday Shopping Worth It?

Getting this week’s post up early for obvious reasons!

So, is it worth it to go shopping on Black Friday? The answer to that is, well, maybe. Are you looking to score some absolutely incredible, jaw-dropping deals that you can only find on that one day of the year? Then you’ll probably be disappointed. Or, are you looking to score some great deals that or as good as or better than any other day of the year? Then you’ll probably be satisfied.

Growing up, we never went shopping on Black Friday. I remember the first time I heard someone refer to the day after Thanksgiving as “Black Friday” and I thought it was a negative term because I literally had no idea what they were talking about. (Suffice to say, now I definitely do know what it means!) As someone who always has and always will love to shop, I was finally able to convince my mom to take me when I was in high school, and I’ve gone pretty much every year since then. Now, I don’t head out at the crack of dawn (I think the earliest I’ve ever gotten to the mall was 8 am), but I do typically spend all or part of the morning out at the stores browsing for Christmas gifts. Over the past decade I’ve found some great deals on presents as well as a few things for myself, let’s be honest! I’ve never been hunting for a big ticket item such as a TV and I’ve never found a deal that saved me an incredible amount of money. But I have had fun navigating through the crowds, people watching and seeing people who have clearly been out all night, enjoying the new Christmas decorations, and finding some really, really good sale prices. I plan on doing it again this year as well. So while in my opinion Black Friday shopping isn’t a must in order to find a good deal, it is a fun experience, and definitely more fun than just surfing the web from your couch!

Something to note that, more so in recent years, stores are expanding their Black Friday discounts past Black Friday. Several start on Thanksgiving, or even earlier, and continue until Saturday or Cyber Monday. I’ve included a few Black Friday sales that I’ve found below. Merry shopping!
